Liz + Jamie Engaged

I received the best tour of East Boston from Liz and Jamie last week. Admittedly, I don’t get over there often, as the T ride would be atrocious, but what a cool area! Not to mention that they have the best view of the city.

We spent the evening hitting all of their favorite neighborhood spots, including the coolest beach ever to watch planes land…on top of you.

Ryan is 1!

After a year of documentation, I wrapped up our year session with Ryan on Sunday. Here’s a look at his 1st year of life:

And finally, his birthday! The poor cupcake didn’t stand a chance, it was mostly on the floor, although some of it did make it to his hair.

Another amazing group of dancers! And I love a good dance party. The liberty is also a super neat place to have your reception, made even better by the incredible efforts of Boutique Design.

It may have poured on Saturday, but rain can also be really nice for creating imagery.

Melissa + Danny Engaged

June 2nd, 2010 — Add a comment »

I hadn’t met Melissa or Danny until our session on Monday, so we started with some oysters and wine, and chatted about wedding details.  Then we headed over to the Esplanade for their engagement session.

With the combination of Scrabble, (one of their favorites) a ukulele, (this is how Danny proposed to Melissa) and the hazy sky, (created by the unfortunate wildfires in Canada) we had one awesome session.  Not to mention the super cool sunset.  I asked Melissa and Danny to create negative space with their bodies, so I could shoot some silhouettes, and without hesitation, Melissa went all Karate Kid on us!  Can’t wait for your wedding in July!

I photographed Tennyson a few months ago, and came back on Friday for round two, her 1st birthday!  Tennyson may be a few years younger than me, but we both share the same enthusiasm for cake!

Ode to Polaroid

May 13th, 2010 — Add a comment »

For those of you who don’t know, The Impossible Project is out to save the Polaroid, and has already released a new silver shade film for SX-70 cameras (although sold out at the moment.)  However, I was able to get my hands on the last 2 packs of the original Fade to Black film, which as the name implies, will turn completely black within 24 hours after taking the shot.  The concept of creating art for the present brought me back to fine art school, when I was taught to not treasure the piece itself, but the process.  There are however two ways of saving an image, and below are a few examples of both.  The images on the left are scanned just minutes after taking the shots, notice how dark they already were, and the images on the right are peeled (the emulsion is peeled away from the transparency and dried, to stop the development process.)

I can’t wait to dive into the second package!
